Community Shop Assistant Volunteer

Objective

The main objective of our community shop volunteers is to help facilitate the running of our community shop, supporting customers, clients and guests as they shop and access the help they need.

The community shop in Cranhill is an exciting venture, addressing the essential needs of the community through the provision of fresh produce and essentials priced by weight. 

We are looking for some enthusiastic people to help give their time in running of the shop. Retail experience isn’t necessary and any training you require will be given to you by our friendly staff and partner organisations. You will assist in the shop, by sorting and pricing, welcoming customers and dealing with the till as required

This is an ideal opportunity to gain retail experience but also to be involved and hands-on, in an exciting community project

Shop volunteers will be based in the Cranhill Community Shop where you will support and assist the Community Shop manager and volunteer team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Welcome visitors to the Cranhill Community Shop
  • To be friendly and approachable
  • Answer telephone calls, queries, pricing stock, assisting with shop displays, cleaning shop floor, unpacking and storing stock deliveries correctly.
  • Adhering to all health and safety procedures set by the Cranhill Development Trust
  • Serving customers and Operating the till, cash handling, recording stock levels
  • Ensuring the shop is clean and tidy and stock is clearly displayed and priced
  • Assisting with delivery of customer service training and development.
  • Liaising with other staff and volunteers regarding deliveries
  • Be knowledgeable about The Trusts classes, activities and events
  • Signposting customers towards further support within Cranhill Development Trust where appropriate
  • Support and uphold the aims and mission of Cranhill Development Trust
  • Assist in closing the shop at the end of the day

Hours and Commitment

Volunteers are expected to commit to a taster session to ensure they are placed in the most appropriate position for them.

Our Community Shop is open Monday to Friday 9-5pm and Saturday 

  • Shop Volunteers are expected to commit to volunteering a minimum of 4 hours at a time to ensure adequate cover between shifts in the community shop.
  • Cranhill Development Trust does not require a minimum commitment of time for volunteers, Our community shop is looking for enthusiastic and reliable volunteers.

Support and Training

  • Volunteers will be supported by our Community Shop Manager as well as the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Training opportunities are available as we work in conjunction with Glasgow Kelvin College – you will be informed of these when they become available
  • The Trust offers a variety of IT classes as well as Employability support that volunteers are welcome to sign up to
