New Scots Women’s Group

The Cranhill Development Trust New Scots Social Women’s Group is a welcoming and supportive space for women who are new to the country to connect, learn, and feel part of the local community. As part of our integration activities, the group meets every Thursday from 12:00–2:00, offering a relaxed environment where women from different backgrounds can come together, share experiences, and build confidence. Through a range of creative and practical activities, the group supports social inclusion while celebrating diversity and friendship.

Activities include cooking, gardening, and arts and crafts, with the sewing club being a particular favourite. Women learn how to use sewing machines and create items such as tote bags, cushions, and many other handmade projects. Alongside developing new skills, participants have the opportunity to practise their English, support one another, and form meaningful friendships within the community. The group helps women feel empowered, connected, and at home in Cranhill.
